What is the difference between IVF and ICSI?
August 24, 2024Quite simply, ICSI is the new technology for IVF.
During a normal in vitro fertilization process, both the wife's eggs and the husband's sperm are placed in a culture dish and the embryologist waits for the best sperm to enter the eggs and fertilize them. During the ICSI process, the best sperm is selected by the embryologist and is injected inside the egg cytoplasm using a micro-needle.
ICSI is the most appropriate technique for male infertility, especially in cases of low sperm concentration and/or motility or when there is a high percentage of sperm abnormalities.
