Intra Uterine Insemination (IUI)
IUI is a very easy assisted reproductive technology that consists in introducing washed sperm in the uterus of a woman after ovulation is induced or monitored. High sperm motility and patent tubes are prerequisites for this assisted reproduction technology. IUI is convenient for a lot of couples as it is very affordable in contrast with IVF. However it is not always efficient. It has an acceptable success rate in unexplained infertility, however after failure of IUI 3 times, IVF is recommended.
IUI is not recommended at all in women above the age of 38 years as its success rate at this age is reduced to 6% and it will constitute a very big waste of time for these women.
